In recent years, more copying centres have expanded their services to include binding and laminating services. By specialising in these services, photocopy centres, now use business machines, such as binding machines, laminating machines, wide-format printing, scanning machines and paper guillotines,

Binding helps handle photocopied sheets by securing them into book form. Photocopy centres also offer laminating services, for customers who need to protect their documents, photos and identification cards from wear and tear.

Binding machines

It is a device, used to bind and secure sheets of paper together. A manual binding machine is the right choice if you have a bundle of paper, which requires binding. However, it makes more sense to use an electric binding machine if you have a large volume of paper to bind.

Using a binding machine is relatively easy unlike the old-fashioned binding process, wherein you painstakingly, glue each page before stitching the spine of the bound material. Manual binding machines punch holes to the paper. Plastic combs secure the bound material, through the holes at the end of the paper.

Paper guillotines

When binding sheets of paper together, they need to be aligned. This process requires a paper guillotine to trim the edges to ensure that the sheets of paper are aligned well.

Due to its versatility and precision, paper guillotines are used to cut from cardboards to great quantities of paper. For high-volume work, electric guillotine machines cut large stacks of paper, which manual paper guillotines cannot manage to cut through.

Laminating machines

Laminating protects the paper or document from scratches, tears and wrinkles, which could alter the text or graphic. It also improves the overall appearance, of printed documents. Lamination can be done by either hot roll or cold roll laminating machines. Hot roll laminating machines, use rollers to melt glue extruded unto lamination film. The film is then applied to paper or cardboard using pressure rollers.

Cold roll laminating machines use adhesive-coated plastic film with a glossy backing to protect graphic-intensive and heat-sensitive materials. Once the glossy backing is removed, the exposed adhesive side of the film will stick directly to the material, which needs to be laminated. The machine’s rollers will apply pressure to the film which wraps the material, thus binding it together.

Wide-format laminating

Wide-format laminating is most commonly used by the advertising, printing and promotional industries, where large-scale prints need to be laminated or mounted. Wide-format laminators are built for heavy-duty and are used by those who wish to create large promotional signs, banners and more.

Wide-format laminating advantages include the allowance for high production rates, a protective and durable finished product, which can be wiped clean, and a wide variety of lamination choices.

Using quality business machines will boost the profitability of the photocopying business. These machines will make binding, laminating, wide-format laminating, scanning and trimming paper much easier. Companies utilizing these services, offered by the photocopying business, will have more time, to focus on operating their corporations.
